Toulouse

Förra veckan reste vi runt i de natursköna landskapen i närheten av Toulouse i södra Frankrike. Vi besökte medeltida städer som Carcassonne, Lourdes och Castelnaudary och cyklade flera dagar längs den vackra Canal du midi som förbinder Atlanten med Medelhavet. Det vore naturligtvis en frestande tanke att resa med Martha längs kanalen men med ett djupgående på 2,00 meter är det inte djupt nog för oss. Nästa gång vi kommer hit hyr vi en kanalbåt.

Last week we travelled around in the beautiful countryside near Toulouse in southern France. We visited medevial towns like Carcassonne, Lourdes and Castelnaudary and went by bike along the historical Canal du midi that connects the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean sea. We would like to visit the canal with Martha but because of our 2,00 meter draft it is not deep enough for us. Next time we come here we will definatly hire a canalboat. 

Midsummer

Midsommarafton börjar närma sig och det är ljust hela nätterna. Katterna är ute och jagar dygnet runt men väcker oss ibland då de ska ha mat tidigt på morgonen. Bilden är tagen några minuter innan midnatt och solen har sjunkit ner strax under horisonten.

Midsummer is approching and the nights are bright. The cats are out hunting around the clock but wake us up when they demand food early in the morning. This picture is taken a few minutes before midnight and the sun has just set below the horizon. 

At home painting

Huset måste målas och jag hade en del andra ärenden som skulle skötas om så nu är jag hemma i Finland några veckor. Jag är van målare efter att ha strukit bottenfärgen på Martha vid flera tillfällen och visst är det bekvämare att måla en husvägg. Med hjälp av en inhyrd skylift gick jobbet snabbt och smidigt.

Our house needed some paint and I had things to do back in Finland so I will stay at home for some weeks. I´m an experienced painter after applying the antifouling under Martha on several occations and it is really more comfortable to paint a house wall. Thanks to a skylift that we rented the job was done fast and smoothly.

Pireus

Det blev ännu en lång seglats då marinan i Lavrion skulle ha oskäligt mycket betalt för en månads båtplats. Jag la ut igen och seglade vidare mot Athen. Från kap Sounion till Kalamaki kunde jag segla gennaker i fin medvind men närmare Pireus dog vinden ut och jag fick gå för motor de sista sjömilen. Direkt utanför hamninloppet simmade två jättelika delfiner upp till ytan och jag blev överraskad att de vill simma så nära land. I Pireus fick jag plats för en tredjedel av priset Lavrion begärde.

I had another long day since the marina of Lavrion asked an unresonable amount of money for one month mooring. I turned back and sailed on to Athens. From cape Sounion to Kalamaki I had good wind and could fly the gennaker but closer to Pireus the wind died out and I had to start the engine. In the harbour entrance I got scared by two giant dolphins that came up to the surface next to Martha. I was a bit surprised to find them so close to the shore. In Pireus I pay one third of the price they asked in Lavrion.    

Kea

Dagens seglats blev längre än beräknat. 38 sjömil totalt innan jag gick i hamn på ön Kea som ligger sydost om Athen. Jag hade bra vind men var rätt hungrig då jag inte ätit något på dagen. För mindre än fem euro fick jag ett gott skrovmål med pitagyros och öl.

Todays distance was longer than I had estimated. I sailed 38 miles before I went into harbour on the island Kea that is situated southeast of Athens. I had good wind but I was hungry since I had nothing to eat during the whole day. For less than five euro I had a tasty snack of pitagyros and beer.

Siros

Efter gårdagens stiltje var det skönt att vindarna återvände idag. Jag fick segla nästan hela vägen till Siros som verkar vara ett trevligt ställe. Får se hur mycket jag hinner se mig omkring här. Jag har hittat ett billigt flyg hem till Finland om jag bara hinner ordna med plats i marina innan dess.

After the calm yesterday it was a relief that the winds returned today. I could sail almost all the way to Siros that seems to be a charming place. The question is how much time I will have to look around. I have found a cheap flight back to Finland if I will be able to find a berth in a marina before that.   

Mykonos

Martha har på nytt korsat det egeiska havet och ligger nu förtöjd i marinan i Mykonos. Från Ikaria hit var avståndet 52 sjömil och tyvärr var vindarna inte med mig denna gång. Det ser inte heller så bra ut för resten av veckan men som tur är har jag inga längre överfarter innan jag är i Athen.

Martha has crossed the aegean sea once again and is now moored in the marina of Mykonos. The distance from Ikaria was 52 miles and unfortunatly the winds were not on my side this time. There will not be a lot of wind for the rest of the week but fortunatly I have no longer passages left before I reach Athens.
