Cefalu - Carloforte - Mahon

Jag har gjort två längre överfarter under de senaste veckorna. Först från Sicilien till Sardinien och sedan från Sardinien till Menorca. Båda seglatserna tog närmare två dygn. På Sardinien hittade jag några fina ankringsplatser. Först låg jag i Baia Carbonara och sedan i Porto Pino. Till sist gick jag in i marina i Carloforte för att förbereda överfarten till Menorca. Nu är jag framme i Spanien.

I made two long passages during the last weeks. First from Sicily to Sardegna and then from Sardegna to Menorca. In Sardegna i found some nice anchorages. First I went to Baia Carbonara and then to Porto Pino. At last I went into a marina in Carloforte in order to prepare for the passage to Menorca. I´m now in Spain.

Roccella Ionica - Volcano

Vinden tog slut och det har blivit långa sträckor för motor. Innan jag kom fram till Roccella Ionica hoppade en stor svärdfisk flera gånger bara 10 meter från båten. Jag var så rädd att den skulle hoppa upp i sittbrunnen att jag glömde lägga ut fiskekroken. Jag hade planerat att stanna i Reggio di Calabria men marinan hade infört ockerpriser så efter att jag tankat lade jag ut igen och seglade genom Messinasundet i 10 m/s motvind och i kolmörker. Morgonen därefter kom jag fram till Volcano där jag nu vilar upp mig.

The wind died and I have done long distances by engine. Before I arrived to Roccella Ionica a huge swordfish jumped just 10 meters from the boat. I was so afraid that it would jump into the cockpit that I forgot to put out the fishing line. I had plans to stay in Reggio di Calabria but the marina was very expensive so after I filled up diesel I went out to sea again and sailed trough the Messina straight with 10 m/s wind against me and in complete darkness. The morning after I arrived in Volcano where I´m now relaxing.  

Othoni - Santa Maria di Leuca

Vi hade svårt att lämna Grekland och måste göra ett sista strandhugg på den lilla ön Othoni som ligger längst nordväst i Grekland som man kan komma. Från Othoni fortsatte vi över till Santa Maria di Leuka i Italien. Vi såg en flock delfiner som simmade en bit bort då vi seglade iväg från Othoni tidigt på morgonen.

 It was hard to leave Greece and we had to make one last visit to a small island. Othoni is situated as far northwest in Greece as it is possible to go. From Othoni we passed over to Santa Maria di Leuca in Italy. We spotted a school of dolphins swimming in the distance as we sailed away from Othoni early in the morning.

Ay Stefanos-Palaiokastrita

Då har jag seglat runt hela norra delen av ön och befinner mig nu i Palaiokastrita. På vägen hit ankrade jag en natt i Ay Stefanos. Man ser faktiskt rakt över till Albanien från den viken.

So I have sailed around all northern part of Corfu and I´m now in Palaiokastrira. On my way here I anchored one night in Ay Stefanos. You actually can see straight over to Albania from that bay.  

Corfu

Då var jag på Corfu. Ligger nu som bäst ankrad utanför Corfu Town. Inga myggor i går natt! Däremot gungade båten lite mera än den gjort tidigare. Varmt är det också, skönt att ligga ankrad så att det går smidigt att ta ett dopp då man känner för det.

I´m in Corfu. At the moment att anchor outside Corfu Town. No mosquitos last night! But the boat was rocking more than usual. It is hot too, and it´s nice to be at anchor and be able to take a swim at any time.

Mourtos

Bara några sjömil söder om Igoumenitsa ligger den lilla byn Mourtos. Utanför finns några små öar som ger skydd åt hamnen. Här finns också fina ankarplatser. Jag hyrde bil och körde ner till Lefkas. På vägen dit körde förbi Parga och Preveza och det var intressant att se kuststräckan från land för första gången.

Only a few miles south of Igoumenitsa you can find the small village of Mourtos. Outside there are a few islands that offers some protection to the harbor. There are also nice anchorages. I rented a car and drove down to Lefkas. On my way I passed Parga and Preveza and it was interesting to see this coastline from land for the first time.

Igoumenitsa

Från Paxos seglade jag till hamnstaden Igoumenitsa och ankrade i en stor vik just utanför. Livet var skönt ända tills myggen anföll på kvällen. Nästa dag tänkte jag gå in till gamla hamnen i Igoumenitsa. Då jag kom in i hamnen såg det mindre mysigt ut, så då ångrade jag mig och seglade tillbaka till Mourtos.

From Paxos I sailed to the harbor town of Igounemitsa and anchored in a large bay just outside. Life was good until the evening when mosquitos attacked. Next day I wanted to go into the old port of Igoumenitsa. When I went into the harbor it did not look that tempting, so I changed my mind and sailed back to Mourtos.

Gaios

Jag vaknade tidigt av att sydvästvinden blåste rakt in i hamnen. Det blev därför en snabb avfärd från Ligia. Jag hade fin sidovind nästan hela vägen till Paxos. Jag lade till i Gaios som måste vara en av Medelhavets vackraste hamnar. Jag skulle nästan våga säga att Gaios är Greklands motsvarighet till Portofino. Jag kom fram tidigt och hittade en bra plats mitt på stadskajen. Det är lördagskväll så får se hur livat det blir!

I woke up early to the southwestern that blew straight into the harbor. I therefore quickly left Ligia. I had good sidewind almost all the distance to Paxos. I went in to Gaios, probably one of the most beautiful harbors in the mediterranean. One could almost compare Gaios with Portofino. I came in early and found a nice place at the town quay. It is saturday night so lets see what is going on here!

Ligia

Det blev kryss hela vägen från Lefkas till Ligia. Enligt guideboken ska hamnen vara liten och grund. Inloppet ska vara knepigt och omgivet av farliga stenar. Beskrivningen ligger inte långt ifrån sanningen men nu då jag tagit mig hit måste jag konstatera att jag ligger ganska bra. Martha är den största båten i hamn, det händer inte så ofta!

I sailed closehauled all the distance from Lefkas to Ligia. According to the guidebook this harbor is supposed to be small and shallow. The entrance should be difficult and surrounded by dangerous rocks. This description is not far from the truth but now when I´m in I have to admit that I'm in quite a good place. Martha is the biggest yacht in the harbor, that doesn't happen to often!

Lefkas Town

Jag gick för motor uppför Lefkaskanalen till Lefkas Town. Jag fick en bra plats vid stadskajen. Idag har jag promenerat ut till norra ändan av kanalen. Där finns en svängbro som öppnas en gång i timmen och släpper förbi båtarna. Där finns även ett gammalt fort och flera badstränder.

I went by engine up the Lefkas channel to Lefkas Town. I found a good berth at the town quay. Today I walked to the north end of the channel. There is a bridge that opens on the hour and let the yachts pass. There is also an old fort and beaches nearby.
